Above Obertauern three cable cars run daily in good weather: the Grünwaldkopfbahn, the Hochalmbahn and the Kringsalmbahn. From there walking routes lead past mountain lakes, waterfalls and alpine huts, some of them suitable for a pushchair. For children there is Bobby's trail with eight stations, and at the Grünwaldsee there are free rowing boats and pedalos.
- The cable cars run in good weather, daily
- Pushchairs and mountain bikes are carried free of charge
- Bobby's Wanderpass is collected and handed in at one of the valley stations
Some of the walking paths through the mountains are suitable for a pushchair, so that families with very young children can explore the high mountains with their mountain lakes, waterfalls and alpine huts as well. Three cable cars, the Grünwaldkopfbahn, the Hochalmbahn and the Kringsalmbahn, run daily in good weather and shorten the climb. Pushchairs and mountain bikes are carried free of charge. At the Grünwaldsee there are free rowing boats and pedalos.
In Bobby's Erlebniswelt the hare Bobby takes children through the mountains of Obertauern. There is plenty to find around the Grünwaldsee and the Krummschnabelsee. Bobby's Wanderpass is collected at one of the valley stations. Along the way you visit all eight stations and have the Wanderpass stamped; after the walk you hand it in at a valley station and receive a surprise present. The Wanderpass costs 5 euros, including a marble for the marble run and the present.
What visitors say
In summer the Grünwaldkopfbahn brings visitors up to the first high plateau without any climbing, where the walking area of Obertauern begins. For families the area around the Grünwaldsee is the easiest destination, with flat paths, a mountain restaurant and pedal boats. Those who want to go further can walk a long circuit over the Seekarspitze and Plattenspitze from the top station; it is a good fourteen kilometres with more than a thousand metres of ascent, is rated as demanding and is well reviewed by walkers. The difference between those two extremes is large, so choose in advance which of the two you want.
- · For the circuit over the Seekarspitze: allow almost five hours, this is not an afternoon walk.
- · With small children the circuit at the Grünwaldsee is enough; the gondola then does most of the work.
