Burg Mauterndorf is set up as a journey back in time to the Middle Ages, with a suit of armour to put on, attack and defence, and a toll station where payment is made in hard coin. In the keep, castle life is depicted in scenes over 6 floors. For children there is an adventure knights' playground.

Under the motto Lust auf Mittelalter, visitors are invited on a journey back in time to the Middle Ages. You climb into a suit of armour and experience attack and defence at close quarters, pass the toll post and pay in hard coin. Young visitors can make use of an adventure knights' playground. The offering has been extended with the keep, where life in the castle is shown in scenes over 6 floors.
What visitors say
Of the castles in the Lungau this is the best rated. The audio guide is experienced as informative and entertaining and one walks round at one's own pace; for children the medieval stations, the dressing-up clothes and the knights' playground are the real highlight, and the 44 metre high defensive tower provides the view. Criticism concerns mainly the signposting inside, as a result of which sections can be missed, and the modern decoration with figures, which according to some detracts from the atmosphere. Outside the high season rooms are closed without that being reflected in the price.
- · Allow at least two hours, with children rather three.
- · Ask for a floor plan on arrival; the routing inside is weak.
- · A good option in rain, because a large part is under cover.
