At the original Bodenhaus gold panning site in the Raurisertal, visitors pan for gold themselves from the Hüttwinkl Ache, with rubber boots, a spade and a gold pan. The site has a panning pond, a log cabin and a children's playground. Allow about twenty minutes by car from the centre; admission is valid for two hours.

Gold mining in Rauris had its heyday in the 15th and 16th centuries. The gold panning site is now laid out as a visitor site with a water supply, a panning pond, a log cabin and a children's playground. At the original Bodenhaus gold panning site, about twenty minutes by car from the centre, visitors pan for gold from the Hüttwinkl Ache, equipped with rubber boots, a spade and a gold pan. Admission is valid for two hours.

What visitors say

Boots, a spade and a pan are provided, and after a short explanation you stand panning in the stream yourself. Visitors note that it is harder than it looks and calls above all for patience and dexterity; what is found are small flakes, not nuggets. It is precisely that slow panning that is experienced as surprisingly relaxing. Children from about eight upwards keep at it well, and the playground next to the panning site takes over when attention wanders.
