The high-altitude road leads to one of the most beautiful valley heads in Europe. The car can be parked at the start of the toll road, after which there is a choice between trying one's luck at gold panning and walking to Kolm-Saigurn along the Knappenwanderweg. The Nationalpark Hohe Tauern shows its most varied side here. Walking and gold panning are two of the many activities in this part of the Raurisertal.
What visitors say
The toll road starts at the Rauriser Bodenhaus and leads in a few kilometres to the Lenzanger car park at about 1,500 metres, in the middle of the rear Raurisertal. Easy walks with little ascent start from there: the circuit through the Rauriser Urwald and the waterfall route are suitable for families. The road is narrow and closed to through traffic, but hut keepers and taxis do drive on it, so oncoming vehicles have to be reckoned with. Anyone who prefers not to drive walks the same stretch from Bodenhaus in just over two hours on an easy path.
- · Towards the end of the season, check whether the road is still open; it closes with the first snow.
- · In autumn many huts are already closed, so food and drink have to be brought along.
- · From Lenzanger the Urwald circular walk can be done in about three quarters of an hour.
