In Torren, a part of Golling, the Gollinger Wasserfall drops 75 metres in height in two falls. The name torren comes from Romance and means rushing mountain stream. Nearby stands the late Gothic pilgrimage church of St. Nikolaus, which is worth seeing. The waterfall was a favourite motif of Romantic painters. The site lies 3 kilometres from the village centre and can be reached on foot in 10 minutes from the nearby car park. Viewing is possible from May to October; in winter only at one's own risk.
What visitors say
The waterfall consists of two parts: the lower basin is reached quickly, while for the upper part it is about half an hour of climbing via steps and wooden walkways. Visitors warn above all about how wet and slippery it is. The spray leaves you soaked within a few minutes and the wooden planks become extremely slippery; walkers are visibly annoyed by people in flip-flops. The path is uneven and not suitable for a pushchair or wheelchair. Outside the high season it is quiet there; in the summer months it becomes very busy.
- · Sturdy walking shoes, not flip-flops; the path is wet, uneven and slippery.
- · Take a jacket with a hood; at the falls it is effectively raining.
- · Go early or outside the high season; it is easy to reach and therefore busy quickly.
