The Gosaukammbahn runs every quarter of an hour from early May to early November up to the Zwieselalm, in the Dachstein West hiking area. A common way to plan the day is to go up with the Donnerkogelbahn in the morning, walk, and then descend with the Gosaukammbahn to the Gosausee. For the return journey there is the Heimbringer-Wandertaxi.
- the lift departs every quarter of an hour
- can be combined with the Donnerkogelbahn, with the Heimbringer-Wandertaxi for the way back
- the valley station on this side is at the Gosausee
From early May to early November the Gosaukammbahn takes walkers and nature lovers up to the Zwieselalm and the Dachstein West hiking area every quarter of an hour. One possible variant: go up to the hiking area with the Donnerkogelbahn in the morning, explore the paths, plants and huts there and enjoy the view, and then descend with the Gosaukammbahn to the valley at the Gosausee. For the way back you use the Heimbringer-Wandertaxi. The route can also be walked in the opposite direction. One of the walking options follows the traces of Empress Sisi.
What visitors say
The gondola takes only a few minutes and saves about 500 metres of ascent towards the walking area below the Gosaukamm. Around the Gosausee it is busy, but those who walk on leave the day trippers behind quickly. The circuit around the Gosaukamm itself is a demanding tour that requires sure-footedness and is usually walked over two days with an overnight stay at the Hofpürglhütte. Ratings for the area vary widely: a substantial proportion give the highest score, but there is also a clear group who found it disappointing.
- · Take enough water; there are no refill options before the Hofpürglhütte.
- · There is nowhere to eat or drink on the second stage, so bring your own provisions.
- · The gondola plus a short circuit is fine as well; the hard work only starts further on.
