The Graukogelbahn takes you from 1,078 to 1,956 metres, to a top station that lies in the middle of an old stone pine forest. Some of the trees are 250 to 300 years old. The Zirbenweg starts at the top station, a circular walk of about three quarters of an hour with seating of stone pine wood and a view over the Gasteinertal.

The Graukogel is known for its old stone pine population; some of the trees are 250 to 300 years old. Directly at the top station of the Graukogelbahn there is therefore a walk of about 45 minutes. Along the way there are seats of stone pine wood and a large stone pine bed in the open air. Stone pine wood lowers the heart rate and therefore has a relaxing effect.

Around this theme the Gasteiner Bergbahnen have laid out the Zirbenweg, a circular walk with its start and end point at the top station of the Graukogelbahn. The idea is to smell, feel, taste and drink the stone pine. The old forest lies close to the top station, in a landscape with a view over the Gasteinertal.

What visitors say

The Graukogelbahn sets visitors down at almost 1,950 metres at the Graukogelhütte, where the walks begin. The stretch to the Hüttenkogel is a pleasant path between rocks and mountain pines, with a view of the Gasteinertal on one side and the Nationalpark Hohe Tauern on the other. The crossing to the Graukogel itself is a different matter: it is rated as demanding, runs along steep drops and requires sure-footedness and no fear of heights. Those who keep to the hut, the stone pine forest and the first summit already have the view as well.
