At 380 metres spread over three tiers, these are the highest waterfalls in Europe. From the viewing path you look at the plunging masses of water from close up. It is the only natural monument in Austria with the nature conservation diploma of the Council of Europe, awarded in 1967.
- the viewing path of the ÖAV Sektion Warnsdorf/Krimml gives the best view of the falls
At a height of 380 metres, spread over three tiers, the Krimmler Wasserfälle are the highest waterfalls in Europe. As the only natural monument in Austria they received the nature conservation diploma of the Council of Europe as early as 1967. The plunging masses of water are best seen from the viewing path of the ÖAV Sektion Warnsdorf/Krimml.
What visitors say
The Wasserfallweg climbs in stages alongside the three falls, with many viewpoints along the way where it is possible to catch your breath. Visitors find the lower section manageable, but the last third clearly steeper and unpleasant in wet weather; with a little fitness, or simply extra time, nearly everyone gets to the top. At the lowest waterfall the spray leaves you wet and the noise is considerable. The stretch to the first fall is level and manageable with a pushchair as well, after which pushing becomes hard work.
- · Go first thing in the morning; later in the day it becomes noticeably busier and the car park fills up.
- · Take a rain jacket, as the lowest waterfall leaves you fairly wet.
- · From the car park it is another short kilometre to the starting point.
