One of the most beautiful and deepest whitewater gorges in the Alps, just outside St. Johann in Salzburg. The route runs over secure bridges and walkways, suitable with children and in poorer weather. Sturdy shoes and warm clothing are worth taking along.
- sturdy shoes and warmer clothing recommended
- passable in any weather, over bridges and walkways
The Liechtensteinklamm is not only one of the most beautiful but also one of the deepest whitewater gorges in the Alps. The gorge can be visited with the whole family, in any weather, over secure bridges and walkways. Sturdy shoes and somewhat warmer clothing are advisable, depending on the season.
What visitors say
The most visited gorge in the Salzburgerland, and that is noticeable: in high season there are queues between about ten and two and the car park is full. The path has more than four hundred steps and ends at the spiral staircase that opens up the newly accessible upper section; that staircase flexes with every step, which has to suit you. Visitors find the first hundred metres with steel protective structures somewhat monotonous, but further on it becomes impressive, with a fifty-metre waterfall. There and back takes about one and a half to two hours.
- · Go around opening time or late in the afternoon; the middle of the day is the busiest.
- · It is wet and cool there: bring a coat and shoes with grip.
- · Not suitable for a pushchair or a wheelchair, and children have to be able to walk themselves.
