The Mozart-Wohnhaus on the Makartplatz houses the largest specialised archive of sound and film documents on Mozart. Since 1996 the Mozart Ton- und Filmsammlung has been housed in the Mozart-Wohnhaus on the Makartplatz, the largest specialised archive of sound and film documents on the life and work of the Salzburg composer. The collection comprises performances of his work, recordings of rehearsals, documentaries, portraits, radio plays and children's films.
The oldest of the approximately 40,000 audio titles dates from 1889, and some musical works can be called up in more than 300 different performances. The 4,000 video productions include film documentaries, feature films and television films about Mozart and recordings of concerts and operas. In addition, about 11,000 Mozart recordings can be called up through the online database.

The Ton- und Filmsammlung is housed in the Mozart-Wohnhaus and is not an ordinary exhibition but an archive with listening and viewing places. Visitors who expect a museum are often disappointed: there is little to see and it is over quickly. Those who do take the time for it can watch documentaries and listen to countless different performances of the same work; a few visitors call that the most enjoyable part of the house and advise asking about it at the desk.
