In Hüttau this museum in the historic Gewerkenhaus shows ores, gold and minerals from Salzburg mining. The historic copper mine on the Larzenbach is the starting point for the visit. It is of interest to anyone who wants to see something of the mining history of the region.
- Early in the season only by appointment and from a minimum of 3 adults
The museum is housed in the historic Gewerkenhaus, and the historic copper mine on the Larzenbach serves as the starting point for a visit. Through exhibits on ores, gold and minerals, the museum shows what significance mining had in the Salzburgerland and what makes minerals special.
What visitors say
The visit centres on going into the mountain: with a guide one walks through narrow, low passages of a medieval copper mine, with steep stairs and some fifty metres of ascent along the way. In the Barbarastollen the copper ore glitters in the walls, with the green discolouration of oxidised copper, and the guide points out traces of hand working and fire-setting. Underground it is seven to eight degrees and damp all year round, in summer as well. Anyone who copes badly with narrow spaces or stairs should skip this outing.
- · Warm clothing and sturdy shoes are needed, it is cold and damp inside
- · Entry is only possible on a guided tour, so departure times have to be taken into account
- · Not suitable in case of claustrophobia or bad knees
