A gorge near Kaprun about 320 metres long and 30 metres deep, cut out by the Kapruner Ache. Over wooden walkways, bridges and narrow paths you walk past rock faces, rock formations and waterfalls to the Klammsee, where a circular path begins. The gorge is only open in the summer months.

Over about 320 metres and at a depth of 30 metres the Kapruner Ache has cut its way through the Kapruner Tal and so formed the Sigmund Thun Klamm, with striking rock formations, high rock faces and foaming waterfalls. Along the way you follow the force of the water at close range.

Wooden walkways, bridges and narrow paths lead through this natural monument, which was first made accessible in 1893, as far as the Klammsee. A circular path begins there.

The gorge is only open in the summer months, because the water swells strongly, especially after the snowmelt. As a result the gorge is still changing.

What visitors say

The gorge is short and can be walked in about half an hour, over many small wooden stairs right alongside the rushing water. Visitors report that it can be busy, which makes looking around and filming in peace difficult. The roofing does not keep out all the spray, so you get slightly wet, and you cannot get through with a pushchair. The path continues to the Klammsee, which many people take in as an addition.
