The Bibelwelt in the Elisabethkirche in Salzburg covers 1000 m² and works more as a hands-on trail than as a museum: entry is through a giant ear, and the stories of Jesus and Paul are followed with an audio guide. Along the way there are an oriental market, a large map of the Mediterranean, dark passages with wobbling floors and a slide leading to an underground tunnel. Suitable for visitors of any age.

The Bibelwelt resembles an ordinary museum less than it does an adventure playground. That is apparent at the entrance already: the building is entered through an oversized ear. Inside the church the stories of Jesus and Paul are depicted. An audio guide leads the visitor through the exhibition.
In the Bibelwelt in Salzburg there are, among other things, an oriental market, a 40 m² map of the Mediterranean with the journeys of the apostle Paul, dark passages with wobbling floors that convey the passion of Jesus and a slide that leads to an underground tunnel.
The house is aimed at curious visitors of any age who want to explore biblical culture.
What visitors say
Opinions differ widely here. Enthusiastic visitors find it a surprisingly physical experience in which one climbs, crawls and touches things, and families with somewhat older children come out positive. Others find the layout muddled: the sections are not in a logical order, the floor plan is of little help, and dark passages and home-made constructions feel unkempt or downright oppressive to some. Several visitors warn that parts are too frightening for young children.
- · Not advisable for small or anxious children; some passages are dark.
- · Expect not a classic museum but a hands-on course; allow about one to two hours.
