With the SalzburgerLand Card you get one free ascent and descent at the Panoramabahn or the Kieserlbahn, or a combination of the two, for example an ascent with the Panoramabahn and a descent with the Kieserlbahn. Bicycle transport is not included.
The six-person gondola takes you to an altitude of 1,850 metres in a few minutes, at one of the finest viewpoints in the Großarltal, the valley of the alpine pastures. From there you can explore 19 different walking routes, with 3 summits, 5 mountain lakes, 4 villages and 14 huts. The range goes from easy walks that can be done with a pushchair to demanding tours.
More information about walking from the cable cars is on the website and in the information booklet Gmiadlich wandern, available from the Tourismusverband and from the Großarler Bergbahnen.
What visitors say
Walkers mainly use the gondola as a short cut: walking up and taking the gondola down, for example around the Kreuzkogel. At the top there are several huts within walking distance and the view is rated highly, although it is shared with many people who only take the lift. A blogging couple recommends taking the forest path instead of the wide forest track, as that is considerably more attractive. Note that a single descent costs almost as much as a return.
- · Walk up and take the gondola down to spare the knees.
- · Take the path through the forest, not the wide forest track.
- · Allow for a long, hard day if the Kreuzkogel is done entirely on foot.
