The valley station of the Mönchsbergaufzug is on Anton-Neumayr-Platz. Over a length of 60 metres the lift takes its passengers up to the top station of the Mönchsberg at 485 metres in 30 seconds. At the top the entrance to the Museum der Moderne is directly in front of you. Restaurant M32 is in the same building.
From here the many footpaths in the nature reserve on the Mönchsberg can be explored. The viewing terrace looks out over the historic roofs of the old town of Salzburg.
What visitors say
The lift takes half a minute from the Altstadt to the plateau of the Mönchsberg. Visitors do not find the ride itself remarkable, but they do consider the view over the roofs and the mountains behind them worthwhile; many people combine it with the walking paths at the top or with the Museum der Moderne. Anyone without a card that covers the lift pays separately, and that regularly leads to irritated reactions. In grey weather little remains, because it is almost entirely about the view.
- · Go in clear weather or towards sunset, when the view is at its best
- · It is also possible to walk up and take the lift only on the way down
- · Count on more than the ride alone: the outing is the paths and terraces at the top
