Toy museum in Salzburg where everything may be touched and tried out. On the ground floor there are marble runs, balancing games and a giant Matador set; on the first floor teddy bears, a small shop, doll's kitchens and a Carrera track. There are also a labyrinth, a separate baby zone and the exhibition Bücherwurm und Leseratte with reading corners.

The Spielzeug Museum is a museum to touch, with playing, experiencing and being amazed as its central themes.

The ground floor offers plenty of room to play, with numerous marble runs, various balancing games and a giant Matador set. The Museumskasperl, which performs weekly in the museum's own theatre, is also popular.

On the first floor there are many teddy bears, a small shop and various doll's kitchens. On the Carrera track children and adults can compare their driving skills. Further sections are the labyrinth, all kinds of miniature toys and a separate baby zone for the very youngest.

The exhibition Bücherwurm und Leseratte is about the world of children's books. It is aimed at children of pre-school and primary school age and at adults who want to see the favourite books of their childhood again. In reading corners children can leaf through classics and new picture books. The two title figures Bücherwurm and Leseratte appear throughout.

What visitors say

In practice this is more a large indoor playground than a classic museum: marble runs, a slide, building blocks and a lot of toys that may be used. That works well for young children and rainy days, but reviewers warn that it becomes chaotic at the most popular sections when it is busy. Adults without children get little out of it; the historical part is small in relation to the play area.
